Identify. Understand. Respond. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an evidence-based, early-intervention course that teaches you how to identify common mental health issues, offer initial help, and connect individuals to appropriate professional support.
Participants will learn how to recognize and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges with a focus on the unique needs and experiences of rural areas.
Why it Matters:
- Rural communities face higher rates of mental health issues and suicide.
- There are fewer mental health resources in rural areas, making early support essential.
- Over 1.8 million rural adults report serious thoughts of suicide each year.
What You’ll Learn:
- How to recognize warning signs and risk factors of mental health challenges in rural communities
- The 5-step MHFA Action Plan (ALGEE)
- How to connect individuals to appropriate support and resources
- How to reduce stigma and promote mental wellness
