Combating Food Insecurity in our Community

Box of groceries

Each month, we distribute approximately 25 pounds of lean protein, produce, and pantry staples to families in our community. This program is made possible with the support of Second Harvest Food Bank of Southern Wisconsin, the Volunteers of Prairie Ridge Health, and our Employee Giving Program.

We continue to work closely with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA), and local public health officials, to ensure the safety of our staff, patients, and visitors.

The food packages we provide include a variety of nutritious foods such as frozen fish, chicken or pork, fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, dried beans or rice, whole grain bread, and peanut butter.

Each package is designed to help participants meet their nutritional needs and reduce the risk of health concerns associated with poor nutrition, such as high blood sugar, heart attack, heart failure, high blood pressure, depression, lowered immune function, dizziness/falls, and poor overall health.

Our nutrition team provides recipes to accompany the monthly food boxes and are always available to assist participants with ideas for preparing and using the foods included each month.

If you or someone you know is experiencing food insecurity, please contact Rachel Selm at rselm@prairieridge.health or call the number below to learn more about our program and eligibility requirements.
