Making a difference one patient at a time

Growing up, Asghar Marwat, MD, was surrounded by role models in the medical field. From his aunt who is an Internal Medicine and Pulmonology physician in Wisconsin, to his uncle who is an Orthopedic Surgeon in England.

But it is his ability to connect with patients and a desire to improve their quality of life that brought him to Columbus, Wisconsin.

“I really like the personal care that you can give to patients in a smaller setting,” said Dr. Marwat. “You get to know your patients and can actually make a difference. You are more accessible.”

Dr. Marwat grew up in Islamabad, Pakistan, a town of about 700,000 people.

“I liked biology, math and physics in high school,” said Dr. Marwat, who specializes in Internal Medicine at Prairie Ridge Health Clinic in Columbus. During his high school years, he would visit Wisconsin where he shadowed Internal Medicine providers. “Columbus is not new to me. I’ve been visiting here since I was a teenager.”

After high school, Dr. Marwat attended the Shifa College of Medicine in Pakistan. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Conemaugh Memorial Center/Temple University in Johnstown, Pennsylvania where he was named Best Intern of the Year.

Dr. Marwat also did rotations in New York, Mt. Sinai, and Chicago. “My rotations in General Preventative Health, Critical Care, and Rheumatology have given me well-rounded experience to care for my patients,” said Dr. Marwat.

Following his residency, he accepted a position on the Medical Staff at Prairie Ridge Health in Columbus.

Dr. Marwat plans to provide relationship-based care with consistent follow-up. “I’m looking forward to keeping people out of the hospital with preventative medicine. If I know what my patients need on a personal basis, I can help them not only medically, but as a whole person.”
